Manual Handling - awareness
This short 2 hour course offers a basic curriculum in safe manual handling for employees who have manual handling tasks as part of their duties.
The training includes:
A brief overview of current legislation relevant to manual handling
Back anatomy and its function
Prevention of injury
Ergonomics and Risk Assessment
Safer Moving and Handling techniques
Certificate of Attendance is awarded at the end of the course
Course Fees = £245 per group -- £45 per person
Manual Handling - principles
This 4 hour course offers a more in depth look at the risks involved with Manual Handling tasks. It is suitable for those individuals who undertake manual handling tasks and for those involved in their supervision.
The training includes:
An overview of current legislation relevant to manual handling
Back anatomy and its function
Causes of injury
Prevention of injury
Ergonomics and Risk Assessment
Safer Moving and Handling techniques
Certificate of Attendance is awarded at the end of the course
Course Fees = £245 per group -- £45 per person
Manual Handling - patients
This 1 day course is aimed at individuals involved in the care profession who are required to carry out activities which involve the moving and handling of people. The initial part of the course involves learning manual handling principles. The second part of the course involves learning and practicing safer patient handling techniques specific to people.
The training includes:

Back anatomy and its function
Causes of injury
Prevention of injury
Ergonomics and Risk Assessment
Safer Moving and Handling techniques
Practical sessions including the use of:
Assisting clients to stand and sit
Bed to chair
Chair to bed
Controlling a falling client
Slide Sheets
Moving clients in bed
Hoist & Standaid
Verbal instructions
NB. This course is only available in-house and relevant hoists must be available for practical sessions to take place.
This course contributes to the underpinning knowledge for the following NVQ competence but may not necessarily cover the entire range statements.
Assessment: Continuous assessment by course trainer.
